According to the Sanral, insurance claims are to be processed like any other insurance claim if you can prove the damage is a result of work on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project.

Sanral spokeswoman Priya Pillay, in an interview with Pretoria News, apologized for any inconvenience caused to motorists by among other things loose stones. "Sanral, its contractors and consulting engineers will remain vigilant in preventing stone loss as far as it humanly possible.Motorists whose vehicles may have been damaged by the loose stones are able to claim for the damage caused to their vehicles from the contractor's insurance company," she said.

"In such claims, the contractor and their insurance brokers would investigate the motorist's negligence and liability in the same way as normal insurance claims," he said.

Pillay said it was important that motorists provide the necessary supporting information that was required for an insurance claim when lodging the claim.

She reminded motorists to adhere to the indicated speed limits as vehicles traveling at higher speeds could also dislodge the stones in the period just after the reopening of the newly sealed lanes.

Pillay said different contractors worked on different sections of the project, so motorists should contact the relevant agency to provide the particulars of the incident which led to the damage.
