The 2009 Blanket Drive that was organized by OUTsurance, South Africa’s largest direct insurer, and the radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo has been hailed as a huge success. During this year's event, over 40.000 blankets and R70.000 in donations were collected.

These donations were divided amongst 19 charities throughout the Gauteng province.

The 2009 Blanket Drive took place between June 15 and July 6, during which a 94.7 94.7 Ground Patrol team visited various shopping centers in Gauteng to persuade members of the pubic to donate blankets, clothes or money. OUTsurance was involved in the drive by donating two blankets for every person who called OUTsurance for an insurance quote.

"We realised that there are many people who would love to help those in need but simply don't know where to start. That's why OUTsurance made it easy for people to help the less fortunate this winter. And it didn't cost them a cent", said Peter Cronjé, Head of Marketing for OUTsurance, in a media release.

Cronjé commented that over than half of the people that called OUTsurance for a car insurance quote, ended up joining the OUTsurance family.

The 2008 Blanket Drive saw a total of 31 428 blankets collected and distributed in the Gauteng area.
